TASK3:exercise1
SMALL RECAP
In the seventh week, Mr. Vinod had us prepare 5 different types of brushes, including a non-traditional brush, and some chart paper. Mr. Vinod first had us practice drawing lines and strokes on a piece of paper, observing the differences between each template. Each brush has the characteristics of each brush. This exercise is the preface to the third task of font design and communication.
INTRODUCTION:
DESIGN PROCESS
RESEARCH
I found some information about text design, and there are many different types of design that make people's eyes shine.

IDEATION
Use 5 different writing tools. Write diagonal, horizontal, vertical, and circular lines for 5 tools in 5 different ways. Write "a e t l g r i y m p n" in five different ways.
My tools of choice are:
1.Permanent Marker twin 109
2.SigmaFlo Liquid 120
3.White Board Marker 221
4.Quick-drying brush
5.A regular signature pen 0.5mm
6.cotton swab

DIGITALISATION
Draw the outline to design the font and estimate the font size.

I chose what I thought was the best letter, "a-e-k-I-m-p-n." And draw it in Illustrator.

DEVELOPMENT IN Font8Lab&Calligarphr
In the process of digitization, I found that Font8Lab was not easy to use. I did “A” well in the software according to the teacher's video, but I could not copy and paste the next one. So I used another software that Mr.Vinods said, "Calligarphr".

Because I could not use "Font8Lab", I used another software "Calligarphr" taught by the teacher.

I used this software to draw the case of 26 letters. And a sentence of twenty-six letters written in a font that he downloaded.

FEEDBACK
WEEK8
General Feedback:
Use different brushes on the paper to write correctly on the base line and pick the type of brush that suits you.
Specific Feedback:
The letters need to be more rounded and need more practice so that they can look more complete and unified, and can make different styles and variations.
WEEK9
General Feedback:
Practice the five fonts completed last week and choose the best font.Import the selected fonts into ai and use a series of tools such as brush tool to create your own fonts.
Specific Feedback:
I can change my previous work by appropriately raising the height of some letters. This can change the balance of my work and make it more perfect.
WEEK10
General Feedback:
Mr. Vinods evaluated our work in class and guided us through digitization including the introduction of control and consistency in font design. The strokes need to have a clear beginning and end point.
Specific Feedback:
Letters and letters before each other have their interaction and are complementary. The ending strokes should be the same, which makes it look neater overall.
WEEK11
General Feedback:
We evaluated each other's e-portfolio blogs. Our portfolio includes all the required sections and complete expressions. In addition to evaluating the work, the design of punctuation marks needs to be consistent with the font design.
Specific Feedback:
There are some minor adjustments that need to be made to some of the letters. Adjust the closing stroke slightly to blend in with the style of the other fonts.
WEEK12
General Feedback:
Mr. Vinod commented on our poster. Poster composition needs to be dynamic, impact, tension and balance. This can enhance readability for readers.
Specific Feedback:
In the creation poster, the punctuation size between the phrases should be the same. The reduction of kerning can enhance the dynamics of the poster.
REFLECTION
Experience
Compared with the previous work, this assignment took a longer time to complete. There are many details to pay attention to in a task. This was a fun assignment because we designed our own typeface. I am also very happy that I can make my own font. But something happened along the way, and my Font8Lab didn't work, so I used what Mr. Green called another software Calligarphr.
Obervation
Before starting this assignment, I searched some basic research and basic knowledge about text design on the Internet. A font may appear the same height and size, this is just an optical illusion.
Finding
This assignment allows me to understand that a good font design takes a long time. The height of some letters and punctuation marks, rising height, falling height, size consistency, stroke width, etc., are more important in the design process.
FUTRUE READING
Fig6.1:future reading
I read an article that Mr. Venom recommended for How to space and Kern Punctuations Marks and Other Symbols' by Thomas Bohm.
Symbol spacing can improve the readability of the text, improve the appearance of the text, and increase the reader's interest in the article and the desire to read it.
Spacing is the control of white space, which determines the clarity of the text, not the dark space caused by the text. Here are some general spacing trends that apply to certain punctuation marks.
Sometimes the punctuation mark in the article may be relatively close to the previous letter, which will affect the appearance of the article. If you need to make adjustments, you need to type a space and other ways to adjust the punctuation. This would be a waste of time and probably wouldn't be as aesthetically pleasing as changing the punctuation mark
